Ghost of Yōtei will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.

The release date was confirmed in a new trailer for developer Sucker Punch’s highly-anticipated standalone sequel to its acclaimed 2020 open-world action-adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima.

In the trailer, we learn more about protagonist Atsu’s story, which is set in Hokkaido, Japan, more than 300 years after the events of its predecessor. When she was young, a gang of outlaws called the Yōtei Six killed her family and left her dead, leading her to return home years later seeking revenge. Along her vengeful quest, she’ll also find a “new sense of purpose” thanks to unlikely allies, per the PlayStation Blog.

In the blog post, Sucker Punch noted that players will be able to choose which leads to hunt down each Yōtei Six in their preferred order. The developer also teases new and returning open-world activities, as well as side quests, to accompany this main narrative.

The trailer also shows some snippets of gameplay in which Atsu uses different combat stances and weapons to hack through her foes, as well as some open-world exploration. All in all, it looks absolutely stunning — which is no small feat considering Ghost of Tsushima is already such a looker.

PlayStation’s confirmation of the Ghost of Yōtei release date also helps fill out the company’s larger 2025 games slate. On June 26, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will launch on PS5, with Bungie’s online shooter Marathon dropping in September.
